1 Week in Barbados – A Family Friendly Itinerary

 

 Make the most of your week in the paradise island of Barbados by following our family friendly recommended itinerary. We got the planning so you can enjoy the relaxing!
 

Saturday – Day 1:


Arrive at Craggy Nook and get settled in with your family. Check out the beach and enjoy the sunset from your spacious balcony before walking across the street to enjoy an authentic Italian dinner at Buzo. There is something for the whole family. Kids can enjoy some pizza or grab a bottle of wine for a more romantic evening for two.

 

Tip: Stop into Flow in Quayside Centre to pick up a local SIM card for just $5 USD and get data for the week ($20 USD)! This allows you to check Google maps or Waze when you’re exploring the island.

Sunday – Day 2:


Take an early morning walk along to boardwalk to start exploring the island. Stop in at ArtSplash for a delicious and healthy breakfast before heading over to a Massy or Trimart supermarket to stock up on some food and snacks for the week.
Spend the day relaxing at the beach and settling into your home for the week. After all the travelling to get to paradise you should spend the day relaxing. For dinner prepare your favourite meal in the spacious fully equipped kitchen or have your own BBQ while the kids build sand castles out front. You can enjoy your dinner on the balcony while you watch another Bajan sunset (we promise you will never get tired of them)!

 

Tip: Be sure to try local fruits and foods – salt bread, ackees, tamarinds balls, cou-cou and flying fish (the national dish), macaroni pie – just to name a few. Check out Foster’s Bakery for fresh baked bread, doughnuts and pastries.

Monday – Day 3:


Book a catamaran cruise to swim with turtles, snorkel with tropical fish and see a shipwreck. Snacks, an authentic Bajan lunch, and unlimited drinks are all are included! Make sure to try the world famous Bajan rum punch! Craggy Nook guests receive 10% off when they sail with Cool Runnings.
After a full day in the sun, head back to Craggy Nook for a quiet night in.  Hire a private chef to prepare dinner while you and your family enjoy dinner under the stars on your private balcony.  The chefs love the spacious, fully equipped kitchens at Craggy Nook.

 

Tip: Be sure to stay hydrated! The sun can wear you out so make sure you’re using sunblock and drinking lots of fluids. Look for some aloe around the island in case of sunburns.

Tuesday – Day 4:


Drive around the island for an island tour catered to exactly what you want to see. Stop at Harrison’s Cave – a limestone cave to see stalactites and stalagmites. Drive along the scenic east coast to see the surfers at Bathsheba and the untouched Cattlewash beach. Head up Cherry Tree Hill to find St. Nicholas Abbey – a traditional plantation which includes syrup, rum, and a sugar mill (Train tours will be available from December 2018). Continue north to North Point to visit Animal Flower Cave for lunch with beautiful rugged cliff ocean views. There is even a playground for the kids. On your way back down to Craggy Nook you can stop at Limegrove Mall on the West Coast for some duty-free shopping.
Pick up some Chefette for a quick and easy dinner at home. Adults should try a roti and kids can try the nugget super pack (it comes with a fun toy).

 

Tip: Rent a car. Having a car on the island is extremely helpful and Craggy Nook guests get 10% off at Stoutes Car Rental – tourist license included!

Wednesday – Day 5:


Walk along the boardwalk and stop in Quayside or Lanterns Mall for some souvenir shopping or to grab some breakfast – try Raw Juice for some healthy smoothies and smoothie bowls or for lunch you can try some Caribbean street food called “doubles”.  Spend the day exploring the capital of Barbados – Bridgetown in the morning. There is duty-free shopping on Broad Street, you can get lunch at the Waterfront Cafe, and then cool down with a snow cone in the early afternoon.
Head back to Craggy Nook for a rest and then get ready for an evening of local nightlife and entertainment. The Beach Extravaganza Dinner Show at Harbour Lights includes local bands, dancers and a Bajan style BBQ! Kids enjoy roasting marshmallows for dessert and dancing along with the performers. It is fun for the whole family!

 

Tip: Harbour Lights is an amazing night out for the whole family and anyone 17 years and older can stay on for a night of free drinks and dancing after the show! Make sure you try a local Banks beer.

Thursday – Day 6:


Spend a day at the nearby Carlisle Bay beaches. At the Boatyard, you can lounge on beach chairs, swing into the ocean on a rope swim, bounce on the ocean trampolines, and swim with turtles. You can even rent a jet ski or get pulled on a banana boat if you’re feeling adventurous! When you get hungry lunch is redeemed with your entrance fee so sit back and enjoy the day.

Later, you can check out Salt for a more casual dinner – be sure to save room for dessert, they have the most decadent brownie sundae! Or check out Champers for a more elegant dinner by the water. Both of these restaurants are a short 2-5 minute drive from Craggy Nook.

Tip: Make reservations at restaurants ahead of time to avoid disappointment.

Friday – Day 7


Try something adventurous! Sign up for surfing lessons with the whole family or explore the underwater world on the Atlantis submarine or with scuba lessons – It’s your last full day on this magical island, make it count! For your last night in paradise, head over to Oistins Fish Market for a taste of local cuisine at a fish fry. Don’t miss out on a flying fish cutter and macaroni pie!

Tip: Arrive at Oistins around 6:00 P.M. – The lines can get pretty long as the night goes on.

Saturday – Last Day


Enjoy one last morning walk on the boardwalk and dip in the sea, say goodbye to your new sea turtle friends and your new home away from home. Pack your bags and head to the airport. As you wait for your plane home immediately start planning your next trip back to paradise!
