Love is in the air and it smells like a cool tropical sea breeze, rolling off the ocean. Romance and adventure await you on your couples getaway to Barbados. Follow this guide to fall in love all over again, not just with your loved one but with the paradise island known as Barbados.
Couples getaways are more fun when you travel in groups of 4. Not only do you have another couple to share the laughs with but you can also share on the costs. Indulge in an affordable, beachfront private villa that sleeps four. The Flying Fish villa at Craggy Nook is a favourite for couples (plus it’s the penthouse unit). This modern, spacious villa comes with all the luxuries you could need plus a 24/7 security guard.
Tip: We recommend booking accommodation in Barbados a few months in advance as villas can book up quickly.
Treat yourself to that yellow polka dot bikini and some cute tropical dresses for your trip to Barbados. Don’t forget the essentials like sunblock and your toiletries. You will also want to add your waterproof camera to your packing list to take photos of your adventures together.
Tip: Do not pack any camouflage (it is actually illegal to wear camo in Barbados).
Once you arrive in Beautiful Barbados you will want to start exploring right away. We recommend renting a car and downloading the Google Map for Barbados before hitting the road. Better yet, get an old-school paper map of the island and put those couples’ communication skills to the test. It’s ok if you get lost, the island is small and locals love to give directions if you stop and ask.
Points of interest to explore on your romantic couple’s island tour include: Bathsheba, Cherry Tree Hill, St. Nicholas Abbey, The Animal Flower Cave and end the day with a sunset at One Eleven East Bar on the West Coast.
Tip: Craggy Nook guests get 10% off their car rental from Stoutes Car Rental.
Stop for a moment to smell the hibiscus. Go for a long walk hand in hand along the south coast boardwalk. Take your time and chat along the way. Tell stories of your past together and dream about your future goals together. A walk along the coastline will calm your souls and awaken your hearts.
Tip: We recommend walking along the boardwalk around sunset, not only is the sky magnificent but it is when baby sea turtles tend to hatch.
Snorkel with sea turtles, ride a horse along the beach or try surfing lessons. There are many fun activities that you can try together in Barbados. Trying something new stimulates your brain and can help break you out of any rut you may be stuck in. Trying something new with your loved one will give you and your partner something new to talk about and a memory that will last a lifetime.
Tip: Book your excursions in advance, especially if you are planning on going on a catamaran cruise. One of our favourites is Cool Runnings.
Barbados is known as the “Culinary Capital of the Caribbean.” You need to dine out at least once during your trip. Our favourite restaurants for a romantic night out include Tapas, Buzo Osteria Italiana and Champers.
Tip: Buzo Osteria Italiana is directly opposite Craggy Nook, making it a must visit for all Craggy Nook guests.
Breakfast in Bed Surprise
Sneak out of bed early one morning and prepare a “Barbados Brunch” for your partner. Sunnyside up eggs with a side of fried plantain, local sausage and cassava bread is how they do it here in Barbados. Serve with a local, seasonal juice from the Farmer’s Market at Art Splash, golden apple and soursop juice are local favourites. Starting the day with on the right foot with an act of kindness for a loved one will set the day in motion in a positive way.
Tip: Visit the Farmers Market at Art Splash on a Wednesday, it is just off the boardwalk and has lots of local foods and gifts.
Capture the magic in a photo. Snap away while on your adventures in Barbados. Smile, laugh and strike a pose. In years to come, you can look back at the photos from your couple’s getaway in Barbados and relive the moment time and time again (or you can always book another trip)
Fact: Barbados has the highest visitor return rate out of all the Caribbean islands. Once you come once, you will be back time and time again.
