You have finally decided on beautiful Barbados as your next vacation destination, but when is the best time to visit Barbados? You can visit the island year-round as Barbados is blessed with over 3000 hours of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 27 degrees, but here are some extra incentives and perks of traveling to Barbados in the Summer or Fall.
From airfare and accommodation to dining out, traveling to Barbados becomes significantly cheaper in the slower summer and fall periods. You can view the summer and fall rates at Craggy Nook here. Look out for special tasting menus at most restaurants. One of our favourite oceanfront restaurants, Champers, has a 3-course menu on for just $59 USD.
Tip: Specials usually run from May to November.
If you are looking to truly escape, summer/fall in Barbados is the time for you. Barbados has never had an issue with crowds, but the slower periods are a lot more relaxing. This is a great time to plan a couple’s getaway or laidback family vacation to Barbados.
Tip: The island becomes more crowded the week of the first Monday in August for the height of the Crop Over festival, Kadooment Day (like Carnival).
1955 was the last time that Barbados was hit by a hurricane (knock on wood). If you are planning a summer trip down south look for locations that are close to the equator like Barbados. The further south the less likely the location will be affected by the seasonal hurricanes.
Tip: Buy travel insurance to avoid unexpected weather delays
Summer and fall months are known as the rainy season in the Caribbean. Despite this, the weather is usually sunny and clear in Barbados. The water is a lot warmer during this period and the beaches are usually wider due to tidal patterns. This means more beach for you to relax on.
Tip: If you do have an odd rainy day we recommend visiting Harrison’s Cave, it’s our favourite rainy day activity.
Two of the oceans most rare animals make their nests on the beaches of Barbados. Hawksbill sea turtles nest between June to October on the south and west coasts. The large leatherback turtles nest between February and July on the south and east coasts. Sea Turtles usually take about 60-70 days to hatch. Hatchlings are often seen at Craggy Nook beach. In fact, the ground floor villa at Craggy Nook is named Hawksbill named after these beautiful animals. If you have stayed at Craggy Nook before, you will know the coconut tree out front, that is the spot our Mumma turtle has been spotted laying eggs by our guests.
Tip: If you see turtles nesting or hatching while in Barbados, please call the Sea Turtle Hotline at 230-0142 they are trained to help protect these endangered animals. The team is great with answering any questions you may have.
There are many festivals year-round in Barbados. Two of our favourites in the summer and fall months are the Food and Rum festival and Crop Over of course!
If you are a foodie, you have got to experience the Barbados Food and Rum festival at least once in your lifetime. Barbados is the culinary capital of the Caribbean (once you visit you will know why), this festival attracts foodies and chefs from all over the world.
Crop Over is Barbados’ version of Carnival. It is celebrated all summer long with the Grand Kadooment Day on the first Monday of August every year. This is the day that paraders (including the world famous and Bajan born Rihanna) dance in the streets in costumes to the sound of sweet soca.
Tip: Listen to the sounds of soca here to get a feel for the festival.
